According to former Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, â€Å"Hydraulic fracking is very much a necessary part of the future of natural gas.† Hydraulic fracking is a process in which natural gas is yielded from breaking rock formations deep below the ground’s surface. The rock formations are injected with a liquid mixture of water, sand, and several different chemical compounds. Some of these chemicals are known carcinogens if they are ingested in certain quantities. Accordingly, many people fear that if these chemicals collect in drinking water, there is an increased risk of the population developing disease. Additionally, companies are not required by law to reveal the chemicals they are using due to the fact that these are â€Å"trade secrets.† Although there are negative aspects of fracking, there are several positive benefits. The process of fracking produces natural gas, which is more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels such as coal and oi l. Moreover, nearly thirty-two states have the environmental potential for fracking, which would could greatly benefit these states by increasing revenue and creating more jobs. Currently, fracking procedures are being left for each state to decide how they want to regulate them. This process should be revised due to the fact that there are several environmental and personal health risks that are involved with fracking. In science, pressure is a measurement of the force per unit area.  The SI unit of pressure is the pascal (Pa), which is equivalent to N/m2  (newtons per meter squared). Basic Example If you had 1 newton (1 N) of force distributed over 1 square meter (1 m2), then the result is 1 N/1 m2 1 N/m2 1 Pa. This assumes that the force is directed perpendicularly toward the surface area. If you increased the amount of force but applied it over the same area, then the pressure would increase proportionally. A 5 N force distributed over the same 1 square meter area would be 5 Pa. However, if you also expanded the force, then you would find that the pressure increases in an inverse proportion to the area increase. I maintained my three day food diary on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday of this week. I currently use a FitBit, I log all of my food consumption and it counts my calories. Not only does it count calories but it has a tracker to count the steps you take every day. Unfortunately FitBit does not count nutrients just calories but also, sleep cycle, water intake, exercise, calories in versus out, miles walked, floors walked up/down, calories burned, and active minutes. It is also very user friendly and easy to use, and the food diary has a lot of food items pre-logged. Logging my food on the FitBit app helped me in going on Choose my Plate and logging my food on their food tracker. From logging my food into the system it gave me my personal account of nutrients for those three days. My personal goal is weight loss so I believe my diet (for these three days) was typically very good. There were nutrients that I was deficient in, but the deficiencies’ on the report can reflect real ity or the fact that Choose my Plate is not (for me) an easy website to use. The reality is there are foods that I either don’t enjoy or they make me feel sick after I eat them (IE milk or lots of bread/pasta) and I can’t afford alternatives to these foods. My average number of calories consumed per day was 1,264 which is quite a bit less than the recommended intake of 2,600 per day.
